Ramadan Awareness Campaign is an initiative designed to educate both Muslims and Non Muslims about the month of Ramadan, the most significant month in the Islamic calendar. This year, the RAC campaign is targeting health. Through our presentations to school students across NSW, we endeavor to provide information and greater insight into the implications of making healthy food and lifestyle choices, and how these choices can ultimately affect long term health and well-being. Note: This site will be continually updated throughout Ramadan, please come back to check out new content!

The Ramadan Awareness Campaign (RAC) was established in 2003 with the aim of providing information and discussion about Ramadan to the wider Australian community.
This year, the RAC campaign is targeting health. Through our presentations to school students across NSW, we endeavor to provide information and greater insight into the implications of making healthy food and lifestyle choices, and how these choices can ultimately affect long term health and well-being.
Through our extensive research, we discovered some alarming statistics. As you may already be aware, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Australia, both amongst men and women. Every 10 minutes, someone dies as a result of cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
There has also been a sharp increase in the occurrence of other lifestyle diseases, namely diabetes, childhood obesity, eating disorders and high cholesterol, which are linked to poor diet and lack of regular physical activity. One in four children are over weight and over 5% are obese. These children have a very high probability of progressing to adult obesity.
Therefore, we at RAC believe that it is important that our children are better informed about making the right healthy lifestyle choices, with the hope that the likelihood of developing these health problems are dramatically reduced.
Ramadan provides a unique opportunity for the purification of the mind, body and soul over a period of thirty days. Ramadan is the perfect time for Muslims to begin improving their diet and lifestyle habits, eliminating unhealthy practices such as over indulgence, smoking and lack of physical activity.
We hope this website will provide you with some interesting and useful information about Ramadan, fasting and health.
