Hadith Narrated Anas bin Malik, “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would not go out on the morning of Eid al-Fitr until he had eaten some dates… and he would eat an odd number.” (Bukhari)

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you!

Ramadan Awareness Campaign as the name suggests, is an initiative designed to raise awareness of Islam through the education of Muslims and Non Muslims alike from Australia and International communities, during the most significant month in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan. Locally it aims to promote unity amongst the broader Islamic community through a common platform.

Each year RAC has a central theme through which it aims to bring us all closer to Allah (God). This year's theme is about Prayer (Salah). Through our presentations to school students across NSW and our show bags distributed throughout Australia we endeavor to provide information and a greater insight into this distinct component of a Muslims personality, Worship! The soul of Islamic worship, our purpose of creation is predicated by the all inclusive action of Prayer (Salah).

Please take a moment to read the rest of the brief for 2008

Eid shall be (most likely) on Wednesday 1st of October 2008, inshallah. Eid Mubarak to you all.

The Ramadan Awareness Campaign (RAC) team works very hard every year to create and deliver many community based activities all over Australia but particularly in the state of NSW. There are about 10 main volunteers who are in charge of coordinating and executing the activities with the help of 50 or so volunteers.

The objectives of RAC are as follows:

  • Provide education and motivation to Muslims regarding Ramadan in Australian and the rest of world.
  • Compensate for the lack of Ramadan Muslim activities particularly in the field of education and the workplace.
  • Establish a platform whereby non-Muslims can find out more information about Ramadan, Fasting and what it means to Muslims in Australia and all over the world.
  • Provide a general insight into Islam to non-Muslims and reduce misconceptions about several key issues

The RAC Campaign reaches:

  • Over 300 public government based schools through presentations and distributable material
  • A variety of private schools
  • Many university campuses nationally
  • Tens of national mosques
  • Many Islamic organizations and institutions
  • Public Libraries
  • The wider Australian public through the use of billboard ads and mass mail drops

In 2008, the RAC team is embarking on the following projects:

  • Deliver Ramadan presentations to school students and staff at over 30 public schools in NSW about Ramadan and what Ramadan means to Muslims living in the Aussie community (see detail)
  • Distribute over 20,000 Ramadan show bags to Muslims at over 300 schools in NSW (see detail)
  • Distribute another 20,000 Ramadan show bags to Muslim organisations and Mosques all over Australia
  • Distribute over 120,000 pamphlets/cards relating to Ramadan in NSW
  • Revamp the www.ramadan.com.au website with the addition of new materials and downloads
  • Send out press releases to many Media organisations throughout Australia
  • Run Learn To Pray workshops in the local mosques
